UHV development prospects can be expected

As the infrastructure of the national economy, the power grid has the characteristics of public resources and has an overall impact on economic development. In an interview with reporters, the former Minister of Power Industry Shi Dazhao stated that the development of UHV power grids is an improvement, not an illusion. This is related to the issue of China’s contribution to the governance of the world and is a commitment to the people of the world. Originally, we did not have access to a large grid, and 500 kilovolts were regional grids, which were put together by neighboring provinces. Today, we have emerged the UHV system with the highest transmission voltage in the world, becoming the highest in the world's power grid and effectively supporting the economic development of developed regions. The big power grid is the productivity and the need of the national economy. The lack of development of the power grid must delay the economic development. The extension of the power grid is an inevitable result of economic development.

On December 16th, the world’s largest project with the highest operating voltage, the highest transmission capacity, and the most advanced technical level—the 1000-kV Jindongnan-Nanyang-Jingmen UHV AC pilot demonstration project was formally put into operation. The project is the world's first AC transmission project with a stable transmission capacity of 5 million kilowatts, achieving bi-directional, full-voltage, and large-capacity transmissions with a maximum transmission power of 5.72 million kilowatts, creating a new record for world AC transmission and has important Milestones.

The expansion has greatly increased the transmission capacity of the UHV AC pilot demonstration project, and has become an important energy delivery artery in China, further verifying the safety, feasibility, and superiority of UHV transmission. The successful operation of the project will promote the intensive development of large hydropower, large coal power, large nuclear power, and large-scale renewable energy power generation bases for the construction of strong UHV backbone grids, achieve optimal deployment of energy in a wide range, and promote the integration of modern energy in China. The construction of the transportation system is of great significance. It further established China’s leading advantages in the field of UHV transmission, improved the independent innovation capability and core competitiveness of China’s electrical equipment industry, and made great contributions to the development of China’s national economy.

The development of UHV has been incorporated into the National Twelfth Five-Year Plan. To respond positively to national policies, Jiangsu has accelerated the development of UHV transmission: China’s second UHV DC transmission project, Jinping Hydropower to Suzhou, has been approved by the state and is under construction. Gradually put into operation in the second half of this year. At the same time, the two exchanges of UHV transmission lines, Ximeng-Nanjing and Huainan-Nanjing-Shanghai projects have also completed all the preliminary work of the project approval, and strive to start the year. The opening of several UHV projects will better serve local economic and social development.
