Broadcom Introduces Industry's Most Energy-Efficient Car Ethernet Chip

Beijing, January 7, 2015 - Broadcom , the global leader in innovative solutions for wired and wireless communications semiconductors (NASDAQ: BRCM), recently released at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, USA A generation of BroadR-Reach automotive Ethernet chips optimized for low-power automotive applications. The chip is highly integrated, has excellent transmission performance, and has a transmission rate of up to 100Mbps on a single pair of unshielded twisted pairs. It has a small size (6&TImes; 6mm) and features multiple discrete devices.

Although Ethernet has been used as an IT network technology, its use in connected vehicles is growing rapidly. Broadcom's new BCM89811 physical layer transceiver (PHY) features low power consumption, enabling automotive Ethernet applications to be extended from infotainment systems and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to telematics, roof shark fins, Instrument cluster, car audio host and center console module.

Broadcom's BroadR-Reach automotive Ethernet technology is currently used in multiple models and has been successfully launched. It offers many advanced features in the 2014 and 2015 BMW X5, the 2015 Jaguar Land Rover XJ and the 2015 Volkswagen Passat.
