Toshiba Introduces High Current 3-Channel Half-Bridge Motor Driver

Tokyo-Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) today announced the introduction of a 3-channel half-bridge motor driver IC (TB67Z800FTG) for brushless DC motors that support high current [1] and can be easily controlled by a microcontroller (MCU) . Mass production shipments will start on the same day.

The new product is a 3-channel half-bridge driver IC that integrates six DMOS [2]. The product can easily control a three-phase brushless DC motor with the input signal of the microcontroller through DMOS on/off.

chip

The new product is available in a small package and is ideal for applications where cooling space is limited. Various circuits such as overcurrent detection and overheat protection circuits improve the safety of the motor drive.

The main features of the new product:

Breakdown current protection

The upper and lower DMOS of the driver are prevented from being simultaneously turned on by using a logic circuit to prevent a breakdown current from being generated. This feature relieves the burden on the microcontroller and reduces the load on the microcontroller.

Small package

The lead-free VQFN package (5mm & TImes; 5mm & TImes; 0.9mm) enables the integrated circuit to be installed in a limited installation space for a variety of applications, such as small cooling fans. The heat radiation pad is glued to the bottom to further enhance the cooling effect and help to improve the radiation characteristics.

Anomaly detection

The overcurrent detection, overheat protection circuit, and undervoltage lockout circuit are integrated to improve the safety of the drive motor.
