California Micro Devices Inc. (CAM) has launched the latest addition to its sensor family: the Praetorianâ„¢ ASIP EMI CM1470, a specially integrated passive device designed for high-performance filtering and robust ESD protection. This innovative component is ideal for high-speed data lines in high-resolution imager interfaces found in wireless handheld devices. In standard clamshell or slider phone designs, port signals often travel along printed circuit boards, making them vulnerable to electromagnetic interference (EMI). As sensor resolutions increase, these interfaces operate at higher data rates, placing greater demands on signal integrity. Traditional RC-based EMI filters tend to degrade signal quality and fail to maintain sharp signal edges effectively. The CM1470 overcomes these challenges by combining advanced processing technology with a spiral inductor and high-level ESD protection, all within a compact 0.4mm pitch chip-scale package.
The CM1470 is a series inductor network that also includes built-in ESD protection. To accommodate various interface configurations, it comes in three channel options: 4, 6, and 8. Each channel features 18nH of inductance and an ultra-low input capacitance of 2pF. The series capacitor design minimizes insertion loss while maintaining a high cutoff frequency, ensuring excellent signal integrity on the data line. Its unique ESD diode and filter port configuration can safely handle ±2kV ESD strikes, meeting IEC61000-4-2 level 1 standards. Additionally, the ESD protection follows the Human Body Model (HBM) specification defined in MIL-STD-883 (Method 3015), allowing it to safely manage currents exceeding ±4kV.
The CM1470 is available in industry-leading ultra-compact CSP packages, with dimensions of 2.07mm x 0.876mm for the 4-channel version, 2.87mm x 0.876mm for the 6-channel variant, and 3.67mm x 0.876mm for the 8-channel model. It is specifically designed for high-speed data lines in high-resolution imaging interfaces used in mobile devices. With the CM1470, designers can implement strong EMI filtering without sacrificing signal quality. The device supports data rates up to 80 Mbps, and its low input capacitance allows for flexible tuning of filtering performance across different channels.
Currently available in samples, the CM1470 offers pricing starting at $0.34 per unit for the 4-channel configuration, $0.43 for the 6-channel, and $0.52 for the 8-channel version. It is scheduled to enter full production in Q1 2006. The CM1470 is offered in a lead-free CSP package and also comes with CMD’s OpTIGuard® coating for enhanced durability and reliability.
