According to Wang Mingxiao, Executive Director of the Western War Zone Army Information Engineering Technology Innovation Workstation Management Committee, this glowing map was produced using advanced 3D printing techniques and is rare globally. “Our combat sandboxes, which combine 3D printing with geographic information systems, have overcome several global challenges and achieved world-leading accuracy,” Wang explained. “This has significantly reduced both time and cost.” This is just one example of how 3D printing is transforming industries in China. The country's 3D printing sector has entered a phase of accelerated development, with breakthroughs in equipment, components, and software. For instance, Hunan Huayu Hi-tech developed the world’s first open-source industrial-grade 3D printing control system, while Yibo 3D introduced the first micro-metal desktop 3D printer in China. AVIC Mate also broke through foreign technology barriers by developing a vacuum induction aerosol chemical powder furnace, achieving an annual production capacity of 10 units. The speed of industrial application is also increasing. Wang Peng, vice president of the China Electronic Information Industry Development Research Institute, noted that China now has a relatively complete 3D printing industry system, with technology levels significantly improved. Some processes and equipment are now comparable to or even surpassing international standards. 3D printing is now a key technology in high-end equipment manufacturing and repair, especially in aerospace. The C919 aircraft, which successfully flew in 2017, used patented 3D-printed titanium alloy parts for the first time, helping reduce weight. Beyond aerospace, the technology is also being applied in medicine, construction, fashion, and food industries. Moreover, 3D printing is becoming a tool for product design, creativity, and personalization. In a 3D printing company showroom, visitors can be scanned in seconds, and their 3D models are printed as souvenirs. This kind of personalized experience is making 3D printing more accessible to the public. According to statistics, China currently has 50 industrial 3D printing manufacturers, 100 consumer-level companies, 50 material suppliers, and 120 service providers. The influence of 3D printing on daily life is growing steadily. Looking ahead, the future of the 3D printing market appears promising. According to the China Additive Manufacturing Industry Development Report (2017), the global 3D printing industry grew from $2.2 billion in 2012 to $6.06 billion in 2016—nearly tripling in five years. In 2016 alone, the global output reached $6.063 billion, up 17.4% year-on-year. China’s 3D printing industry has also seen impressive growth. In 2016, the total output of large-scale enterprises reached 2.03 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 87.5%. By the first half of 2017, the output had already reached 1.16 billion yuan, up over 50% compared to the same period the previous year. With such rapid development and increasing market confidence, many companies are optimistic about the future. Sun Guoqin, Chairman of Gansu Bozijiang 3D Printing Technology Co., Ltd., expressed confidence, stating that sales would reach 30 million yuan in 2017 and aim for 100 million yuan in 2018. Internationally, China’s 3D printing industry is gaining attention. Krieger, President of Stratasys Asia Pacific and Japan, emphasized the huge potential of the Chinese market, calling it a strategic priority. He added that the company is investing more in local teams to seize new opportunities.
