How is the dot pitch of the liquid crystal display calculated?

How is the dot pitch of the liquid crystal display calculated? In principle, there is a net cover in the fluorescent screen of an ordinary picture tube, and there are many fine holes on it, so it is called a "shadow-type picture tube." The beam from the electron gun passes through the holes, illuminates the designated location and excites the phosphor, and then shows a spot. Many different colors of dots are arranged together to form a colorful picture.

It can be seen that the number of small holes in the shadow mask is very important. The more points the screen has, the more points there are and the finer the picture. The total number of points on the shadow mask is determined by the size of the picture tube. Without considering other factors, the 17-inch 30% more holes than the 15-inch picture tube increase the picture by 30%. Accuracy. However, as long as the distance between two small holes in the shadow mask is reduced, that is, the number of small holes per unit area is increased, the accuracy of the screen can be improved as well.

The unit of measuring distance is millimeter (mm). However, there are many different measurement methods for point spacing. The distances between the actual points, vertical points, and horizontal points are different. The vertical point distance is equal to half of the distance from the three same-color fluorescent points to the triangular oblique line, which is equivalent to half of the point distance (side length). The horizontal point distance is actually the height of the triangle formed by the three same-color fluorescent points. We know that the height of the equilateral triangle is less than the side length. Therefore, the horizontal point distance is smaller than the actual point distance.

Taking a 17-inch, 0.28mm dot-pitch display as an example, it can display up to 1024 points in the horizontal direction and up to 768 points in the vertical direction, so the limit resolution is 1024*768. Exceeding this mode, adjacent pixels on the screen will interfere with each other, instead making the image change unclear. The current pitch is mainly 0.39, 0.31, 0.28, 0.26, 0.24, 0.22mm and other specifications, the smallest can reach 0.20mm. In general, small dot pitch and good convergence performance can achieve better display results.
