DIALOG introduces the latest single-stage LED driver iW3600

Dialog Semiconductor has introduced its latest single-stage LED driver to address dimming performance, heat and cost issues in high-power, dimmable solid-state lighting (SSL) applications. The new iW3600 with 45W output power seamlessly adjusts the brightness of the light from 100% to 1% without causing dead travel problems, while illuminating the LED with a lower pop-on current The brightness of the lamp is extremely low (< 5% of the light output).

In addition, it uses Dialog's patented configurable overheat protection (OTP) derating technology to address lamp life issues caused by overheating; its single-stage digital design also helps lighting original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) reduce materials List (BOM) cost.

The iW3600 is designed for a variety of retrofit bulbs, including external dimmable ballast drivers and A19, PAR and T8 bulbs used in existing phase-cut dimmers. It uses Dialog's patented intelligent dimming control technology to accommodate a wide range of dimmers including TRIAC, digital and general purpose. This technique can use the results of digital analysis to query the dimmer and apply an algorithm that automatically matches the type of dimmer.

Dialog's patented thermal protection derating technology is designed to address the problem of shortening the life of LED bulbs caused by overheating of retrofit bulbs. Most power IC designs are equipped with a thermal shutdown feature that shuts down the IC in high temperature environments. Although this feature protects the IC, it does not protect the LED driver circuit because, in most cases, when the control IC is turned off, the operating temperature is still much higher than the safe operating temperature of the electrolytic capacitor.

The iW3600's built-in adjustable thermal protection derating technology monitors the temperature inside the sealed SSL bulb. When the temperature is high, the iW3600 will automatically reduce the drive current into the LED in a small step size; when the temperature drops, it will seamlessly restore brightness. This approach reduces operating temperatures in low-flow bulb environments, avoids exceeding the rated temperature of electrolytic capacitors, and helps achieve predictable lamp life.

The iW3600 meets or exceeds regulatory requirements related to global power quality and efficiency, with lower total harmonic distortion (THD) < 20% and higher power factor (PF) > 0.92.
