USB device is no longer the default operation of the system you changed?

It was time to respond to the little partner's question. This morning, the on-duty editor was faced with this issue. The younger friend had a problem, and Xiao Bian naturally needed to handle it quickly.

From the user's description, we can determine whether the issue is related to the USB port's power supply or system settings. Let’s start by using the elimination method.

Right-click on "This PC" and select "Properties" to open the System window.

Then go to "Device Manager" and look for the "Universal USB Hub" under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers."

Open the properties of the hub and check the "Power Management" tab. Make sure the option that says "Allow this device to wake the computer" is not checked, as shown in the image below.

If this option is enabled, it could be the reason why your USB keyboard or mouse keeps losing connection. You should disable it if it’s checked.

If the option isn’t selected, the issue might be due to insufficient power from the USB port. Although keyboards and mice don't seem to require much power, they actually do need a stable supply. If the USB hub doesn't have an external power source, like a mobile hard drive, you may experience intermittent disconnections.

USB keyboards typically require 5V at 25mA, while mice usually need 5V at 200mA. If the USB hub is low quality or the motherboard is old and has many devices connected, power issues are likely. Be aware of this when using multiple peripherals.

Additionally, even though keyboards and mice are durable, they are still electronic devices. Prolonged use under unstable power conditions can significantly reduce their lifespan. So, always make sure your setup is reliable to avoid unnecessary wear and tear.
