Design and Simulation Analysis of Built-in Antenna for Double G-type Ultra-wideband Mobile Phone

The dual G-type ultra-wideband built-in antenna for mobile phones discussed in this article is compact, with dimensions of 38mm in length, 3.5mm in width, and 4mm in height. This new internal antenna supports a wide range of communication bands, including CDMA800, GSM900, DCS1700, PCS1900, and WCDMA2100. The design was simulated and optimized using CST Microwave Studio software. Both simulation and testing results demonstrate that the antenna performs well and holds significant potential for market application.

In recent years, as wireless communication technology has advanced, personalized wireless devices have become increasingly popular. To meet aesthetic demands, mobile phones have been designed to be more compact. As a result, reducing the size of the antenna has become an essential trend. Most mobile phone antennas use omnidirectional linear polarization designs, such as monopole or planar inverted F antennas (PIFA), which are simple to integrate with the PCB, cost-effective, and provide good signal quality. However, many multi-band monopole antennas on the market face challenges in achieving sufficient bandwidth. This paper introduces a new mobile phone antenna that uses a high dielectric constant material as the antenna bracket, significantly reducing its size while enabling a novel double G-type structure. This design allows the antenna to support multiple frequency bands up to WCDMA2100. The simulation and design were carried out using CST Microwave Studio.

Figure 1 shows the flattened geometry of the antenna proposed in this study. The antenna measures 38mm in length, 3.5mm in width, and 4mm in height.

2. Antenna Design and Structural Dimensions

Figure 2 illustrates the top view of the mobile phone's printed circuit board (PCB). The substrate is made of FR4 fiberglass with a dielectric constant of 4.9, a thickness of 0.5mm, and a size of 100mm by 40mm. The grounded area is fully covered. The 50-ohm feed line has a width of 1.97mm. The antenna bracket is made of a special resin material with a dielectric constant of 7 and a loss tangent of 0.001, making it ideal for antenna applications. This material was sourced from research institutions in Tokyo, Japan.
