**Abstract:** With the increasing adoption of NB-IoT chips, more companies involved in this technology have emerged. This article highlights several listed companies that are actively engaged in the NB-IoT ecosystem and explores their contributions to the development of the Internet of Things (IoT).
**NB-IoT Related Listed Company - China Telecom**
At the 2017 Tianyi Intelligent Eco Expo, China Telecom announced its plan to achieve full network commercial VoLTE deployment by 2018. Alongside this, technologies such as NB-IoT and eMTC were also expected to go into commercial use. The event showcased China Telecom's comprehensive approach to M-IoT, from chip modules to platform applications, covering smart cities, vertical industries, and personal consumption areas.
China Telecom displayed a wide range of IoT solutions at the exhibition, highlighting its efforts to build an M-IoT ecosystem. During the Tianyi IoT Industry Alliance Summit Forum, the company introduced 12 IoT warehousing modules, including six NB-IoT modules and six Cat.1 modules. The alliance has grown significantly, expanding from 95 to 177 members. Its solution library covers over 40 IoT scenarios, including smart cities, transportation, logistics, industrial energy, health, agriculture, and finance.
Notable examples include Huizhong Instrument’s NB-IoT smart water meter pilot in Shunde, Zhejiang Jinka’s expansion of NB-IoT smart gas meters to over 1,000 units, and Ningxia Auto’s NB-IoT cow monitoring project in multiple provinces. Shen Shaoai, Deputy General Manager of China Telecom’s Technology Department, emphasized that China Telecom’s NB-IoT network based on 800M has a global advantage. He noted that IoT applications are diverse and require tailored solutions, with NB-IoT and eMTC developed specifically for different use cases.
**NB-IoT Related Listed Company - China Mobile**
Recently, China Mobile launched the OneNET IoT Alliance, partnering with MediaTek to introduce an NB-IoT universal module based on the MT2625 chip. This module includes an eSIM card, which is a software-based alternative to traditional SIM cards, offering greater convenience and flexibility. The OneNET platform helps lower the development barrier for NB-IoT, enabling developers and startups to create IoT devices and applications more easily.
An example of this innovation is China Mobile’s shared bicycle smart lock, which can last over six years on a single battery. It allows users to track the location of bikes in real time, detect unauthorized movement or tampering, and send alerts instantly. Unlocking takes just 2–3 seconds, supporting multiple methods such as app buttons, QR codes, or card swiping.
The Chinese government has been actively promoting IoT development. In June 2017, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a notice urging the rapid deployment of NB-IoT networks. By the end of the year, 400,000 base stations were planned to be built, with major telecom operators accelerating their rollout. The focus is on public services like smart city infrastructure, utility metering, parking management, and environmental monitoring, while also expanding into personal applications such as smart homes, wearables, elderly care, and pet tracking.
**NB-IoT Related Listed Company - Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.**
Huawei first introduced NB-M2M technology in 2014 and later collaborated with Qualcomm and Ericsson to develop it into NB-IoT. In June 2016, the NB-IoT core protocol was approved by 3GPP, marking its recognition as a global standard. As a result, NB-IoT has become a widely accepted technology, driven by both technological advancement and market demand.
As the largest NB-IoT chip manufacturer in China, Huawei offers a broad range of products, including wireless and fixed network chips, digital media solutions, and IoT systems. These have been deployed in over 100 countries worldwide. In the digital media sector, Huawei provides SoC-based network monitoring, videophone, DVB, and IPTV solutions. The company also develops communication modules, vehicle networking terminals, industry-specific devices, and comprehensive IoT solutions, earning widespread recognition for its innovation and quality.
