We've been busy cleaning up our new home over the past few days, and we haven’t had the chance or the conditions (the house isn’t fully finished yet, still a bit messy). Today, I finally managed to write this post and will continue writing tonight. This new place is also a reflection of the hectic work we’ve been doing over the past few months.** **Let’s start with the most controversial room – the kitchen.** ![Kitchen Panorama](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f5/4ccb1a46310.jpg) **This is a panoramic view of the kitchen. Although it’s open, and there are two people living here, we don’t usually cook very fragrant dishes. So, opening it up was not a problem at all.** ![Cooking Area](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f5/689589d1508.jpg) **This is the cooking area. The hood is a Siemens side-suction model, and the power is strong enough. When it comes to hoods, I almost felt like the end of the world (more on that later).** ![Spice Jar](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f5/9f1d2e21053.jpg) **I bought this spice jar on Taobao (this photo is for reference only).** ![Countertop Sockets](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f5/b67b5369001.jpg) **There are two sets (three in each group) of sockets on the kitchen countertop, which is more than enough for daily use — ovens, electric stoves, rice cookers, etc. I absolutely can't believe the kitchen could have more than six appliances running at once.** ![IKEA Drawers](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f5/efe8c6f7177.jpg) **These are IKEA drawers for the cabinets. If you're someone who needs everything in its own place, these are like gospel.** ![Workspace Panorama](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f6/0b98acd4576.jpg) **This is a panoramic view of my workspace.** ![Black Box](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f6/3e1aa1c3216.jpg) **The black box on the far right is a G-Technology Lightning 2 hard drive array. It supports daisy chaining, and it's affordable.** ![Wife’s Work Table](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f6/57929fb8893.jpg) **This is my wife’s work table. Compared to mine, it's a mess.** ![Brushes](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f6/6c071d39586.jpg) **Some brushes and other stuff.** ![Entertainment & Dining Area](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f6/ad9ecf63501.jpg) **This is the entertainment and dining area of the living room. The TV cabinet is IKEA’s Carleke, the coffee table is IKEA’s Stockholm 2017 (also used as our dining table), and there are two lazy sofas (they’re so comfortable, you don’t want to get up). The TV is a Vizio M55-D0, and I temporarily placed a pair of Bose C2 speakers next to it (planning to upgrade to a Yamaha soundbar, but I can’t afford it yet). The refrigerator on the right is a Panasonic NR-B30WG1-XW.** ![Young Wife’s Desk](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f6/c52bd84513.jpg) **This is my young wife’s desk. The air conditioner is a Mitsubishi Electric MSH-CE12VD.** ![Toy Cabinet](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f7/0f5b3e84118.jpg) **This is the cabinet where I keep toys and turtle tanks (my dad handles the filter). Everyone ignores the unfinished 911.** ![Musk Turtles](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f7/267b1557599.jpg) **These two musk turtles have been with us for ten years.** ![Shoe Cabinet](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f7/3c7a08a2210.jpg) **This is the shoe cabinet from IKEA, and it fits perfectly.** ![Custom Fit](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f7/61991b45468.jpg) **Perfect fit for custom use.** ![Dining Table & Lazy Sofa](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f7/7c20cd02399.jpg) **Dining table and two lazy sofas.** ![TV Shelf & Storage Boxes](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f7/8f2110a8529.jpg) **The TV has a row of shelves and some storage boxes from IKEA. The living room lights are two Philips TL-D 90 pairs of color lamps. Due to our work, we needed high color rendering index (Ra >= 97).** ![Nephew’s Brush & Das Vida](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f7/aab14d88228.jpg) **Nephew’s brush and a dazzling Das Vida.** ![Bedroom Panorama](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f8/6807fd91089.jpg) **This is the bedroom panorama.** ![Bedside Table & Lamps](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f8/812ad83379.jpg) **Bedside table with two Mi smart ceiling lamps and Muji cleaning supplies.** ![Wardrobes on Balcony](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f8/a3873148173.jpg) **Four IKEA Parks wardrobes on the balcony. They are 2.36 meters tall, and our family members are 2.41 meters tall. Standing upright in them is quite a challenge.** ![Small Handle](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f8/ba8dccd254.jpg) **The small handle on the wardrobe feels really good.** ![Shower Room View](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f8/d278ed97528.jpg) **Looking out from the shower room. The shower is located next to the bathtub.** ![Shower Room Shelves](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f8/fff0c534203.jpg) **Storage shelves and cleaning products in the shower room.** ![Shower Faucet & Bathtub](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f9/078082a5187.jpg) **Shower faucet and bathtub tap from Taobao. We only wanted black, so Hansgrohe wasn’t involved.** ![Hand-Washing Station](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f9/21b53859396.jpg) **On the left is the hand-washing station, which has a high attention volume. On the right wall, I used no-nail glue to hang some cleaning products from Muji.** ![Washbasin](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f9/3a960781154.jpg) **Washbasin.** ![Bathroom Door](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/5a/21/f9/4e85d701739.jpg) **Looking into the bathroom door. The toilet is the cheapest one we could find.** **Even though the renovation is now complete, it took about five months before and after the process. The experience was mostly happy, though there were some unexpected surprises along the way. Overall, we’re pretty satisfied. After all, this is our home, and as long as it makes us feel good, that’s all that matters.** **Then came the egg.** **It happened like this. One evening, we were ready to cook for the first time in our new home. My wife was in the kitchen, and I went to take a shower. While I was in the warm water, I heard strange sounds coming from the bathroom. I didn’t open the door, but as I stood in the warm breeze, I heard another strange noise from the bedroom window. The wind was strong, so I rushed over, thinking it might be a leak. At that moment, I didn’t think much of it and assumed it was just the wind outside. Then I went to the living room and found that the air conditioning vent was also leaking.** **At that point, my wife was frying food. When she turned off the hood, all the strange noises stopped at the same time. That’s when I started to suspect there was a problem with the range hood. Was there an equipment issue? A building problem? Or was there something wrong with my wife? I quickly searched online for “air-conditioner eye air leakage” and found someone mentioned it might be due to poor sealing in the room. If those areas aren’t properly sealed, they can create a vacuum effect. Finally, I felt a bit relieved.** **There was a crisis, but it turned out to be a relief. Even though our decoration is now complete, thank you all for your support during this time.** **I’m not sure what else to buy next. After all, I can’t afford anything after the renovation.**
