At 818, Jingdong had a big sale, and the Honor V9 dropped down to 2899 yuan. Since I wasn't too concerned about UFS or eMMC, I jumped at the chance when I found a good deal. Even though it's a first-half-of-the-year product, aside from the UFS, the configuration still falls into the mid-to-high range.

First, let’s discuss the Honor V9 Enjoy Edition, Magic Night Black, and Jane Open Box.
Because it's an older model, there’s no need for excessive embellishment. Just place two A4 sheets on the desk and avoid direct lighting. It's pretty straightforward, and I haven’t unpacked something like this in a while.

The packaging for the Honor V9 has returned to a simpler stacked design. The top layer holds the phone, and the bottom contains the accessory box. This approach is not as innovative as the previous Glory V8 design, which had a drawer-style opener.
The accessories for the Honor V9 weren't housed in separate boxes, so they lacked the tidiness of the V8.
The Honor V9 still includes a simple VR glasses case design, but the materials used are thinner compared to the previous V8 model.
Essentially, it’s all basic stuff: the Honor V9 main unit, a USB Type-C data cable, a fast charging adapter, a product manual, and three packs of certificates, along with a SIM eject tool and VR lenses. The VR experience on this device is more of an "experience" rather than anything substantial, as even the VR box accessories consist of just two lenses. I remember there being glasses and nose pads included previously. Despite the price increase, the user experience seems to have regressed.
Secondly, let’s delve into the details of the Honor V9 Enjoy Edition in Magic Night Black.
Since I didn’t play around with lighting, the charger might appear a bit gray, but it’s actually white. The Honor V9 uses a fast charger rated at 5V/2A or 9V/2A, and the data cable follows the USB Type-C standard, similar to the previous Honor V8 models, making them interchangeable.
As an upgrade over the Honor V8, the V9 also features a 5.7-inch screen and an integrated metal body. When placed side by side, the differences in appearance aren’t very noticeable. Both models share the same placement for their Honor logo.
The three openings on the forehead are identical: from left to right, there’s an 8-megapixel camera, a sensor, and a handset.
The edges of the Honor V9 use a curved transition, unlike the chamfered edges of the V8, which makes it more comfortable to hold.
The Honor V9 abandoned the flat body design of its predecessor, making it thinner than the V8. Its official battery capacity is 4000mAh, which is over 500mAh more than the V8.
The Honor V9 replaced the previous spirit design with a two-button setup for the volume and power buttons. It’s likely that user feedback wasn’t positive, prompting this change. Personally, having a function key has saved me a lot of time—quickly opening the camera, taking screenshots, etc.
The 3.5mm headphone jack is located at the bottom, and the original left microphone reverted to the small round hole design from the previous symmetrical opening of the Honor V8. The rightmost microphone opening now has a five-hole design and is positioned closer to the edge. Interestingly, I noticed that the Honor V8 didn’t have any exposed screw holes.
The design differences between the Honor V9 and V8 are most noticeable on the back. First, the laser focusing device is hidden beneath the text “DUAL LENS†on the left. The prominent black box of the Honor V8 is absent here. The fingerprint unlock key has changed from an ellipse to a perfect circle, and its position is slightly higher. However, when using it, I found the height a bit inconvenient.
After booting up, the Honor V9 still maintains a high initial value, although the 2K screen effect isn’t particularly noticeable.
The Honor V9 version I bought is powered by a Kirin 960 processor with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It runs the EMUI 5.1 system, which is based on Android 7.0. There’s no need to worry about the system’s fluidity. The Honor V8 still runs on EMUI 5.0. Huawei won’t abandon its old users, right?
There’s a lot of online discussion about the hardware, so I won’t go into detail here. Instead, let’s move on to a simple camera test.
The Honor V9, like the V8, comes equipped with dual 12-megapixel rear cameras. According to official specifications, the differences between the two seem negligible. However, the V9 features a third-generation dual-camera algorithm. This brings further optimization to the effects of the black-and-white camera mode and the large aperture mode.
Is this third-generation dual-camera algorithm just an algorithm? I grabbed a V9 box and zoomed in on the calendar behind me. The summer heatstroke is somewhat blurry and almost unrecognizable. Personally, I don’t feel much difference from the V8.
The black-and-white image effect is very appealing and playful.
Looking at the pictures taken with the Honor V9 and V8, there’s a noticeable difference in color. The V9 produces more vibrant, greener, and more pleasing images. However, the outline of the couch in the distance is too dark to make out clearly.
A quick glance at a street view photo shows that both nearby and distant plants appear more green and red on the Honor V9. The outlines of the leaves are clearer, and the lines are neater, creating a more three-dimensional effect. The Honor V8 seemed to produce images that were overly white and bright.
Thirdly, let’s summarize:
Advantages: 1. The third-generation dual-camera shooting is even more powerful. 2. The curved body feels better. 3. The headphone jack moved to the bottom. 4. 2K screen + 6GB + 128GB flagship configuration.
Disadvantages: 1. The packaging box isn’t compact enough. 2. The body attracts fingerprints easily. 3. The unlock key position is too high. 4. No significant improvement in camera performance parameters.
The feel of the Honor V9 is much better than that of the V8, and its appearance is lighter and more colorful. Although the performance parameters of the camera haven’t improved compared to the previous generation V8, the new third-generation dual-camera algorithm has made up for this shortcoming. Not to mention the performance boost, the V9 eliminated the 32GB storage option and standardized the screen to 2K resolution. However, the price rose from the original Honor V8’s 2299 yuan to 2599 yuan.
