On Wednesday, the two tech giants jointly announced their collaboration, marking a significant milestone in the industry. Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos, humorously tweeted: "Alexa just made a new friend."
CNBC reported that this partnership will allow the voice assistants from both companies to seamlessly integrate and activate one another. Amazon Alexa users will now be able to tap into some exclusive features of Microsoft Cortana, including managing work schedules and reading professional emails. Conversely, Cortana users will gain the ability to shop on Amazon via Alexa and control smart home devices.
Speaking at the press conference, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating: "Our goal is to ensure that users can access Cortana from any device, anytime, anywhere. Integrating Cortana's knowledge and Office 365 capabilities into Alexa represents a major leap forward towards achieving that vision."
Bezos echoed this sentiment, noting that in the future, multiple intelligent assistants will coexist, each excelling in different areas. By combining their strengths, these assistants can offer users a more enriched and comprehensive experience. Microsoft launched Cortana as an app in May 2015 with the aim of creating a truly intelligent assistant.
