Klaus Schwab, founder and CEO of WEF, said at the opening of the first center that the center would serve as a platform for global dialogue and cooperation in the face of emerging technology impacts. The fourth industrial revolution center model will enable business leaders, governments, startups, civil society, academics and international organizations to jointly design and create governance innovations for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain.

WEF also pointed out that the Fourth Industrial Revolution Center will set up many committees, including the Global Artificial Intelligence Council, the Global IoT Council and the Global Blockchain Council.

And each committee's mission is to identify governance gaps in key emerging technologies, to allow policy makers, practitioners, and experts to share learning about innovative governance experiments, to provide strategic guidance for the center's programs, and to become early adopters of policies and protocols proposed by the center. .

WEF also said that it will set up an academic scholarship program to allow top undergraduate students at major universities to study at local centers and integrate key academic research into the center's programs. The two-year study allows researchers to stay in the center for the first year and return to their original institution the following year.

WEF first proposed the importance of Industry 4.0 in 2015, and Schwab published The Fourth Industrial RevoluTIon in the following year.
