Tektronix video quality solutions, when integrated with AWS media services, offer a comprehensive approach to end-to-end video quality assurance for pay-TV operators, broadcasters, and OTT providers transitioning to cloud-based infrastructure.
On February 23, 2018, in Beijing, China, Tektronix, a leading provider of video testing, monitoring, and diagnostic tools, announced that its video quality assurance solution now supports AWS Elemental MediaLive, AWS Elemental MediaConvert, and AWS Elemental MediaPackage. This integration enables video service providers—such as pay TV operators, traditional broadcasters, and over-the-top (OTT) platforms—to efficiently convert and package content into multiple formats while maintaining high-quality delivery throughout the entire workflow.
With this partnership, customers can leverage Tektronix Sentry to monitor live video streams across the cloud portal and content delivery network. For file-based workflows, Tektronix Aurora’s file-based quality control ensures consistent media files stored on Amazon S3, meeting strict quality, regulatory, and operational standards.
“To thrive in the cloud, content providers must be able to quickly detect and resolve issues within their workflows,†said Charlie Dunn, General Manager of Tektronix’s video product line. “We’re excited to collaborate with AWS to deliver robust QC solutions that enhance the viewer experience.â€
The Tektronix solution offers advanced analysis and diagnostic capabilities, including:
Sentry Real-Time Monitoring – Designed to work seamlessly with AWS Elemental MediaLive and AWS Elemental MediaPackage, Sentry provides real-time monitoring of video streams from the cloud to the CDN. It identifies and reports critical issues affecting the viewer experience, helping prevent service disruptions. Additionally, it delivers true video Quality of Experience (QoE) and image quality analysis, even on encrypted networks. These software-based tools can be deployed flexibly across cloud or hybrid environments.
Aurora’s File-Based QC – Integrated with AWS Elemental MediaConvert, which handles file-to-file video transcoding, packaging, and encryption, Aurora ensures that media files stored on Amazon S3 meet high-quality standards. This is essential for delivering reliable VOD experiences. For OTT services, Aurora uses perceived video quality metrics and TekMOS image ratings to identify encoding and alignment issues, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable viewing experience. Whether through a web interface, API, or directly via Amazon S3, Aurora allows automated QC checks on files in designated folders.
