ADI launches 16-channel audio DAC DAU1966

Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) today introduced the ADAU1966 16-channel audio DAC that improves audio system performance and reduces power consumption for professional, "professional consumer" and automotive audio equipment applications.

The 24-bit 16-channel audio DAC ADAU1966 provides 118dB SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) performance at a sampling rate of 192 kHz. By running the digital part at a lower voltage, the ADAU1966 has the lowest power consumption in its class of less than 300 mW in 16-channel operating mode, thereby achieving 118 dB SNR performance. Digital power can be generated on-chip by a linear regulator, so that the device can be powered by a single analog power supply. Alternatively, the regulator can be bypassed to provide an independent 2.5 V to 3.3 V power supply for the chip.

The ADAU1966 operating with a 3 Vrms full-scale differential output voltage can reduce downstream gain requirements and maintain high SNR under electrical coupling system noise. The ADAU1966 ADC uses an on-chip PLL (phase-locked loop) to obtain the internal master clock from the external left / right clock, so there is no need for an independent high-frequency master clock, whether or not it has a bit clock.

The ADAU1966 has passed AEC-100 automotive application certification and has an operating temperature range of -40 ° C to + 105 ° C. It also improves the SPI / I2C port, allowing an external microcontroller to adjust the volume and read the chip temperature with an accuracy of +/- 3 ° C.

The main features of the 24-bit 16-channel audio DAC ADAU1966:

· THD + N = −98 dB

300 mW total static power consumption (19 mW per channel) at AVDD = 3.3 V

· 2.5 V digital power supply and 3.3 V or 5 V analog and IO power supply

· Master clock generated by PLL or direct master clock

Supports 24-bit and 32 kHz to 192 kHz sampling rate

· Passed automotive application certification

· Low electromagnetic radiation design
